My objective in building my real estate career is to build it as a referral-based business. As with all sales occupations the need to prospect or seek new clients is always a major source of effort and energy for a real estate agent. Since prospects can come from one of two places a large amount of time is spent in either or both of these efforts. The first is prospecting for consumers with whom an agent has no prior relationship. The second is trusting AND asking current and past clients to refer the agent to friends or family members that may have a real estate need. Obviously the referral-based business only grows if the client is served and the agent is worthy of a referral.
The first form of prospecting is very time consuming and costly. The second is built on relationships and trust. I have made a commitment to build my business on serving my clients before, during and after the purchase of the home and trusting if they are satisfied they will confidently refer me.

If I am in a position to know I will obtain referrals from my clients during and after their transaction, I can spend more time marketing their home and finding them a new home and less time prospecting.
